The Role of Nahdhatul Ulama’ Young Generation In Maintaining Morality in Globalization Era By : Mailina Ahadiyah

Nahdlatul Ulama’ (NU) is the biggest socio-religious organization in Indonesia, with the members more than 40 billion. Nahdlatul ulama’ has important role in the character building of Indonesia. Especially in this globalization era,with losing of boundaries among nation, and signified by the social networking symbol, like facebook,twitter,and friendster.

            Many experts agreed that the youth period is a process of self identifying toward a perfect people. But in this period they found many tempting, obstacles, and challenges, and of course those all will determine their  future.

            We are really sorry and sad in this modern era, the noble moral values and religious values have been left by many young people, especially among the teenagers. They do what Islam religion values forbide like : free sex, free love, alchoholic drink, and drug abuse, as if they have known religion. Consequently, they will be drugged into negative deeds, like: rapping, fighting, murdering, prostitution, and eventually they lose they future. 

                        We have to realize young people, teenagers and moeslim student are facing the number of problems. The biggest and the most horrifying problem today, in globalization era is morality. Morality is very important in building personal characteristic. Rasulullah  Ṣalla Allah’Alaihy wa Sallam said:

انّما بعثت لأتمّما مكارم الأخلاق

                     The mean it: I was be sent by the god only to perfect a good morality.

We all know how big the influence of technology in our life. And we all know beside the positive effect technology has the negative ones. The young people, young generation and student of Nahdhtul Ulama’ are easily influenced by technology especially internet.

There are many factor causing the young people do the negative deeds:

1.      The influence of bad values and bad culture. The influence can be from using technology inappropriately and awisely.

2.       Less attention or inappropriate education and religion education given by their parents.

3.      The influence of bad friends. They just follow what their  friends do because they want to show their belonging of the group. So that, we should be carefully select a friend.

If we leave the factors above, we will save,but if we followed them,they will be trapped in the worse future and gloomy life. If it really happened they would be the useless young people for their nation and religion. Of course it is very pity and tragic, isn’t it? Then, what should do overcome the problem? Here is the solution, the improvement of young people’s knowledge toward their  religion’s teaching. So that, the students will have enough knowledge, and they can select the good deeds and the bad ones.
